KOTA KINABALU, Friday, 19 September 2025:
Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Vice President Gee Tien Siong said that flood victims in Dah Yeh Villa and Lido should each receive government relief of RM1000 per household.
He pointed out that the government is currently limiting the RM1000 per household aid only to those staying in temporary evacuation centres, which is neither fair nor comprehensive.
Although no centres were set up in Kota Kinabalu, this does not mean affected residents escaped losses.
Many victims in these areas were forced to remain on the upper floors of their own homes or temporarily seek shelter with relatives and should not be excluded from assistance. The flood victims have suffered losses such as damage to the house flooring, furniture and electrical appliances.
Gee questioned why DAP representatives, who are ministers and assistant ministers in Kota Kinabalu, who were elected to represent and serve the people, were not actively helping residents to apply for relief funds. Instead, he said, they appeared more interested in filming videos of themselves at flood-hit areas for self-promotion.
He further stressed that the Federal Deputy Minister, who is also the MP for Kota Kinabalu, should ensure that KK flood victims receive part of the RM10 million in assistance announced by the Prime Minister.
“What victims truly need is real help in securing subsidies, not wayang,” he said.
He urged the government to treat all flood-hit households equally and ensure that the affected families receive proper assistance and support.
