NGO: Extend B4G Program Instead

KOTA KINABALU, 12 Feb 2022 – Solidariti Rakyat (SORAK), a local NGO called on the Federal Government to extend the “Back For Good” (B4G) program which allow foreigners return to their respective origin countries, said its chairman, Jamain Sarudin.

Jamain said the B4G program may provide an attractive alternative for undocumented foreginers, including those who overstayed in Sabah for more than 30 years, to return their home countries safely without being caned or jailed.

“The implementation of B4G was a success in the peninsula to reduce the illegal population, and it is welcome to be extended here.

“During the process under B4G, data can be collected, which will be more effective than issuing a Special ID Card.

“Once returned home, foreigners who join B4G may choose to apply or renew passports from their origin countries and enter Sabah through proper immigration channels (or, in other word, regularisation).

The regularisation program was implemented twice, during the time when Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee and Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat were holding the Sabah Chief Minister office.

“Stricter law and heavier penalties can be imposed to those who refused to take part in B4G and those who would be repeating the same crime,” said Jamain in a statement, today.

Jamain said the move to give a special document to and allow the illegals to stay, is breaching existing law and posing a threat to our country’s sovereignty, furthermore, infringing the rights of Orang Asal Sabah.

“Immigration Act 1959/63 and Passport Act 1966 should be implemented at full force against intruders.

“The civil war in the Philippines ended a long time ago, it is time for them to return home,” added him.

SORAK had been organising various Black Sundays on issues concerning the sovereignty of Sabah, since 2010, including the one protest against Sabah Temporary Pass (PSS) held in Membakut during Kimanis by-election.
