SANDAKAN, 29 November 2021: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee wants the issue of the 1963 Malaysia Agreement resolved before the 15th General Election (GE15) is held.
According to him, he has been fighting for the matter for more than 10 years until it became a mainstream issue.
However, it has not been resolved to this day.
“I agree and I want to, I have also made a motion in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) but you asked me if I agree with MA63 being implemented, I said yes.
“Do I believe it will be implemented or not before the general election? No,” he said.
He said this in a press conference in conjunction with the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) New Members Reception Ceremony in Sandakan, on Sunday.
Yong Teck Lee said he is also certain that the MA63 issue will not be implemented before GE15.
According to him, the Federal Government is seen to be delaying the implementation of MA63 like playing kuntau. This is because, he thinks the issue will be the main issue that will be played in the next GE.
“This is the Federal Government playing kuntau, playing Tai Chi (delaying tactic), he said slowly. “So I am not sure the Federal Government can complete MA63 before the next GE.
“I am not sure, I do not hope, that MA63 to be the main issue in the next Parliamentary Election in Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
However, he strongly agreed that the issue which touched on the distribution of income from tax revenue, oil revenue, territorial waters and the privileges of Sabah and Sarawak could be finalized immediately.
He said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs), Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili would also brief the Sabah State Assemblymen (ADUN) on the MA63 issue next Saturday.
