Sabah IC an issue at SAPP conference

Kota Kinabalu, Tuesday, 15 June, 2021

Calls for the issuance of Sabah IC resonated at the Biennial delegates conference of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) today. A delegate from the youth movement and another from Keningau called on the party to take up the issue of Sabah IC to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government because Sabah IC is an effective way to solve the prevalence of fake identity documents.

Earlier, SAPP president has assured delegates that the party’s stand to get the Sabah government to issue Sabah ICs to genuine Malaysians in Sabah is still in the party agenda.

Another hot issue raised by delegates are the calls on the government to expedite the Covid-19 vaccination process.

SAPP President in his winding up speech replied that the government at both the federal and state levels are indeed expediting the vaccination process to the extent of involving the private sector. Yong revealed that, at the virtual meeting of the Supreme Council of Perikatan Nasional the day before, the Prime Minister had assured that the vaccination process will be increased and expedited.

On the issue of gender equality whereby there is no women representation in the Sabah cabinet, Yong explained that the cabinet composition is a result of the political process and that it is not the intention of the Chief Minister to exclude women from the Cabinet. “In fact, several civil service appointments have seen the promotions of women,” said Yong.

Yong promised to bring up to the relevant authorities a number of issues raised by delegates such as road conditions at Kota Marudu, food assistance for Beaufort flood victims and other poor people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, low internet penetration and the disparity in prices of rubber latex between Sabah (which is cheaper) and Peninsula Malaysia and the revival of the Sabah economy and the status of Sino-natives.
