Yit Jee: Defending Harmony and Education: Sabah Must Be Shielded from Malaya’s Toxic Politics

Lawyer Yong Yit Jee, Sabah Progressive Party Supreme Council member cum Vice Youth Chief, has lodged a police report against a Facebook post published by Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah on 24 October 2025, which contains inflammatory and racially provocative statements against Chinese vernacular education and the Chinese community.

In his post, Ridhuan Tee used vulgar and demeaning language, including “ultra kiasu,” “kurang ajar,” and “kena ajar supaya jadi manusia” and accused Chinese schools of hindering national unity. He even called for the government to close or take over all 1,300 Chinese vernacular schools (SJKC) nationwide.

Such statements go beyond personal opinion. They carry a seditious tendency under Section 3(1)(e) of the Sedition Act 1948, as they are capable of promoting ill-will and hostility between races. They may also fall under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for inciting racial tension through improper online communication.

“As a graduate of Tshung Tsin Secondary School in Kota Kinabalu, I can personally attest that Chinese independent and vernacular schools have produced generations of disciplined, patriotic, and high-achieving Malaysians. Attacking these schools is not only an insult to our community, but also a direct challenge to the Federal Constitution, which guarantees the right to education under Article 12, including the freedom to choose education aligned with one’s cultural and linguistic identity,” he says

“Sabah and Sarawak have always been models of peace and tolerance, where people of all ethnic and religious backgrounds live side by side in mutual respect. We must shield our Borneo states from the toxic racial politics imported from Malaya, which repeatedly exploits race and religion for political gain. Our unity is our strength, and we will not allow the poison of extremism to take root here.”

Yit Jee confirmed that the police have recorded his statement in relation to his report and will be reviewing the case for further action.

He urges the authorities to take stern actions against Ridhuan Tee for his seditious remarks whice were published in the public domain.

“The government authorities must uphold Malaysia’s values of moderation, mutual respect, and constitutional rights. Sabah and Sarawak’s peace and harmony must be protected at all costs,” he concluded.
