SANDAKAN, 9 February 2022: Sabah Fishermen’s Association welcomes the appointment of Mohd Jamil bin Abdullah, a Sabah local, as the Director of Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia Sabah (LKIM Sabah). The association has a membership of more than 13,000 people.
Shaiful Bahari Hj Muin, board member of the Sabah and National Fishermen’s Association (NEKMAT) said the appointment of Mohd Jamil, a Sabahan, to replace Sundralingam A/L Nagaiah as director effective 15 February 2022 is good news. Sundralingam will be transferred back to Perak.
He said this appointment gives a new hope and direction for Sabah because a local Sabahan to lead LKIM Sabah is in a better position to understand the needs, aspirations toward the betterment of development and protecting the fate and future of our fishermen.
Shaiful, who was a former Chairman of the Sandakan Area Fishermen Association, said the entire Board of Directors of the Sabah Area Fishermen’s Association and the Sabah State Fishermen’s Association took the opportunity to thank the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, the Chairman of LKIM and the Honorable Director-General of LKIM as well as the relevant parties for their support and commitment in ensuring that LKIM Sabah continues to be led by local Sabahans.
“This appointment is appropriate as Mohd Jamil bin Abdullah has a lot of experience in LKIM apart from having good integrity throughout his service,” he added.
He also hoped that the State and Federal Governments would always provide the support for implementation of development projects planned for the progress of the fishing community in Sabah now and in the future.
