KOTA KINABALU, 13 October, 2021: Heavy downpour for several days which caused landslides and uprooted trees along the jogging track in the Taman Tun Fuad Stephens Park had prompted the management to close the whole area, said Gee Tien Siong.
Gee, who is the Community Development Leader (PPM) of Luyang said that due to safety concerns and anticipation that the situation may worsen, the Park management decided to temporarily close the place for repairs and restoration.
Gee, a Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) vice president called on the public to be patient and stay safe.
He was briefed by Mark Daniel, the person in charge of the park, on the situation and development through a phone call today.
“For those who want to go for jogging exercise, there are many other alternative places which have been re-opened to the public,” he said.
Gee said in his statement that he was asked by city folks why the Tun Fuad Stephens Park was still not yet available for public use since the Sabah government has announced easing of the movement control.
“It is hoped that the public can give the park’s management some time to clear the debris and complete restoration to the park. After that, the park management will then decide after safety assessment is carried out and the appropriate date to open the place to the public,” Gee added.
Gee also thanked the management for taking safety-first into serious consideration.
