KOTA KINABALU: With the Sabah government opening up the socio-economic sectors in the its Economic Recovery Plan, many businesses have reopened in Luyang area, employees have returned to work and Jalan Kolam is teeming with traffic, said Gee Tien Siong. Despite this, it is surprising that the Luyang YB has not noticed it, he said.

Gee, who is the Luyang Community Development Leader (PPM Luyang) and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) vice president, said in a statement rebutting Luyang State Assemblyman Ginger Phoong accusing that small businesses have closed down, people lost their jobs and lives, portraying a grim outlook of people in crisis survival.

“Phoong has accused the government’s failure of the vaccination plan but in fact, Malaysia’s vaccination rate was recorded one of the highest globally the past week. Many Kota Kinabalu dwellers are sharing photos of their vaccination, and some even bragged about their vaccine passports; can’t he see it too?”

“Meanwhile many residents of Kota Kinabalu complained that the DAP refused to give them food aid just because they are not registered voters in the constituency.

“I advise Luyang YB to heed the Sabah Chief Minister’s directive and distribute food aid to residents in need as soon as possible, not only for Luyang voters and supporters but the ones who are in real need residing in Luyang.

“If he (Phoong Jin Zhe) cannot even carry out the food distribution work well, he and his officers should resign, and let the Luyang People’s Development Unit (UPPM) take over.

“I wish to remind Phoong that Sabah changed its government in September last year. After the GRS took over the office, it has done a fine job for the state in fighting the covid-19 pandemic, even praised by the Director General of Health of Malaysia as exemplary. For the past two weeks, the daily number of new cases has remained around 200 to 300 and yesterday it recorded a weekly low (239 cases),” Gee said.

He said that according to the statistics released by the Ministry of Health, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, both under the PH government, new infections are becoming more and more uncontrollable, with recorded single-day new cases exceeding a thousand. Instead, these two Menteri Besar and their executive councils (EXCO) should take the blame and resign. Phoong had asked the Prime Minister and the whole cabinet to resign in a previous statement.
