KOTA KINABALU, May 7, 2018: A Likas construction site has apparently been converted into a concrete premixed production area, leaving nearby residents up in arms.

Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) secretary general Datuk Richard Yong said a steady stream of concrete mixer lorries leaving the site of the commercial development had been going on for months.

“People living in Likas have been seeing the fully loaded concrete mixers leaving the construction site,” said Yong who is contesting the Likas state seat.

He said residents there were wondering how did the developer gain approval for its construction site to be turned into premix concrete production area.

Yong said the constant flow of concrete mixer trucks was causing noise and dust pollution in the area surrounded by houses as well as the nearby Likas Sports Complex.

He said the authorities should stop these activities that were detrimental to the environment and the health of Likas folks.

“As far as I know, concrete mixing activities is only allowed within industrial areas. I hope the authorities will enforce the necessary laws,” Richard said.

He said Likas folk are thankful to SAPP that has proven to be reliable in highlighting their concerns and problems.

“They know they can turn to SAPP compared the former Likas Assemblyman Junz Wong who was there in name only,” Richard said.

“He was an absent YB who ignored the issues they faced,” he said in adding that they were not surprised Junz had moved to contest in Tanjung Aru as he knew his support in Likas had waned.
