KOTA KINABALU, April 17, 2018: Malaya-based opposition parties and their local affiliate are merely focused on toppling Barisan Nasional and have no genuine interest to regain Sabah’s rights as outlined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) deputy president Melanie Chia said recent statement by DAP and other Malaya-based opposition party leaders showed they will only go so far as devoluting powers to Sabah that have been taken by the Federal government if they come into power.
“This is no different than what BN is doing. The Malaya-based opposition parties here dare not offer to fight for Sabah’s autonomy because they are answerable to their Malaya masters,” she said on Tuesday.
“At the end of the day, the Malaya-based opposition parties in Sabah are no different than BN. They are the same animal in different skins,” Melanie added.
And as far as local parties like Parti Warisan, she said they had to associate themselves with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to make themselves look bigger than they actually were.
“They in turn become subservient to the Malaya parties and will sing and dance to the tune of their Malaya leaders, again no different than what’s happening in BN,” she said when responding to Sabah DAP secretary Chan Foong Hin who said that PH and Warisan were the main opposition groups in the country.
“To sum it up, the peninsula-based opposition parties in Sabah and their local lackeys are subject to Ketuanan Malaya. They can’t deny this,” Melanie added.
Melanie said the local Gabungan Sabah coalition of which SAPP is a component had on the other hand had put forward a comprehensive plan in the election manifesto to get Sabah its deserved status in the Malaysian federation as stated in MA63 and as already enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
She said GS focus was for Sabah to attain an equal partner status in the federation, issue Sabah ICs to genuine Sabahans, resolve Sabah claims, reclaim oil and gas rights and the special revenue rights and elevate the status of native courts.
